It's awesome to watch Owls hunt. They just hover there watching and then strike. SOOOOO COOOL!

Snowy owls are the shit, Molech eat your baby's heart out!

PS

Yes once, at an animal shelter, I was young but still wanted to take it and set it free, or train it as a messenger and have it sit on one of those cool leather gloves that they perch on.

Would see snowy owls all the time back in Northern Ontario but I dunno if they are still common. One was always sitting on a telephone pole at my first school and the teachers were worried it would go after a little kid.

Big owls around here would swoop down on my cat to get a mouse away from it. Kitty would just drop the mouse and run away.

lol how ironic :P
O.W.L being beside boundray bay airport and releasing all that we can't return to their own areas (due to danger like ones hit by car) on the property sure boosted the bird of prey population in ladner over the years

i know this threads a little outdated, but i saw the COOLEST snowy owl once on my way home from my parents at like midnight. it was sitting on the side of the road and not moving as we drove past. we thought it was injured so we turned around and went back and parked by it. as soon as we got out of the car, though, it took off...it was the sweetest sight ever - it was sooo big and beautiful, seriously took the breath away...

that's awesome that you guys stopped to check if he was alright
and that he flew off :)
it's too often that they are HBC (hit by car)
infact that's the reason of injury for 40% of the 300 birds of prey we get into my work per year

here's a pic of the 2 snowy owls that are non-releaseable residents at OWL.
piggy & kermit.. piggy was hit by a plane in 1992, amazing he's still with us (minus a wing)

At my friend Robyn's place in Duncan a couple weeks ago. She has a birds of prey refuge at her house and her and her Mom run the birds of prey show up Grouse in the summer.

I may have been wrong when I said "refuge" I just used that word cause it's the only word I know that describes this sort of thing. Basically I went to her place with a bunch of friends to hang out and drink for a night. In the morning she showed us around all the birds. It was really sweet, I felt like a kid going to the zoo.

And when I found out she has an O RLY owl I was giddy with anticipation to see the goofy look it had on its face.

Here's a link to her place. http://www.pnwraptors.com/

They were living up Grouse in the summer to do the show there, and as far as I know they'll be back next summer.
