Harajuku is a high fasion area in Tokyo if I understand it right... so it's not so much a certain look as it is referring to the high fashion girls who shop that area.

apparently, the center of this ganguro culture is right in the area of tokyo im moving to.

from what i've heard about it, like yoko said, it was big a couple years ago. ganguro, literally translates into 'black-face'. the idea is that these girls goto tanning salons to acheive a deep tan, in order to appear as a california blonde or a black woman. for some reason, naomi campbell apparently is a huge influence to them.

and apparently there was a bunch of dudes into this shit too, they were called 'sento' i think.
