hehehe... Yeah, my bad credit is due to an overdue cell phone bill from quite a few years ago. :( Boy did that ever teach me not to lend out my phone so easily and so much, and not to use it during the day!

Really?

It doesn't really take much to make up a credit-rating.

Yeah, dealing w/ one card is simpler, however, having multiple credit accounts does build up the credit rating.

It's not _MY_ design, just helping the young-uns to figger it out.

Applying for 4 credit cards in the period of a month gets a flag on your credit. Then good luck getting any of them. There's a reason you don't wanna take the "free cd with credit card application" they offer at the Universities....

Credit card companies don't like it when people with no credit ask for a bunch of credit cards. It means they're looking for a bunch of credit they're not entitled to. By the time you hit your 3rd or 4th application (note: This is just applications and has zero bearing as to whether or not you even get approved) your credit rating gets mad docked.

The things you learn while reading The Peak....

^You've got me beat.

It's just been so long since I've even _tried_ to get a card.

I get mailed at least once a month from some credit card wanting me to sign up.

I've got 2 cards I've never used, hidden in my place. I just have no need for them.

Credit cards _are_ usefull.
Just use them, wisely.

shiny black, shimmery blue design on front with black back and silver stripe?

mosaik mastercard from bmo.

i have a mosaik mastercard from bmo, and it's my first one. i'm not even 20, but they gave it to me (with an $1100 limit as well). anyways, $15/year gets me a lower interest rate (12% as opposed to 18.9%), airmiles, reward points (money you spend gets you points which go towards paying off whatever balace you have at the end of the year) and they've been really good.

i took out a loan with my bank, and then they offered me a card, plus a hefty line of credit.

im not sure if it would work for you, but if so just pay back the loan after a few weeks or so. you may pay a bit of interest on that, but paying a loan off 2 years early looks great on a credit report. plus possible access to a CC.

ps: all hail mojo
pps: someone remind darren to sign out of fnk

i've has a credit card since i was 16. I actually have 2 now. and I'm in the porcess of paying them off and getting a travel rewards visa. I know several people who put EVERYTHING on their c.c and pay it off right away. To earn free flights and such. For example the visa gold has a min. limit of $5000 and an annual cost of $100. You recieve points and travel insurance. I just paid $75 from ING for a years worth of travel insurance. So if I had known to upgrade to a visa gold...I would only pay $25 to have a decent rewards card.
The main thing about credits cards..if you have to be smart with using it. Don't screw your credit while you are young. But I think most people should have one for emergency purposes.
I started with a Visa classic student card. With a $500 limit. and as I got older..they kept raising my limit.
