I will not deny it is a funny new show, but you obviously don't have a lot of knowledge of the genre to make this comment.
American Dad is just one of Seth McFarlene's similar formats for cartoons shows: nuclear family -> talking pets -> socially awkward teens -> delicious foreign accents.

I did notice some of the jokes didnt pack the same punch as they used to. The GI Joe spin would have had a completely different twist seasons 1-3, they sorta just made fun of the fact GI Joe did it. Tamer. Still, packing all the same highs. Stoaked for the new season, see you Sundays!

it was funny, but you can't really say it's funnier after only seeing one episode. they need to keep it going for at least a season before the two can even be compared, really.
