We need a real festival in this province...

Or at the very least in the Northwest. Closest we have seems to be either Coachella (and that's in California) and Shambhala (and that's really not that big). And then there's Merrit Mountain Music Festival and ACF, but honestly.... These are all pretty low key.

Can we have something like a 30k+ rock festival around here? With, like, real headliners? All the big rock shows that happen around here are put on by radio stations or whatnot and honestly fall short.... Is it possible?

Am I missing something? Or are we seriously that deprived in this corner of the world? Would it be possible to throw something of that magnitude (given, of course, the money to be able to do it...) and have it successful?

I'd love to see a decent music fest up here but honestly dont see it happening anytime soon. seattles got some good ones: bumbershoot, saskwatch etc. oh and btw coachella this year was fucking AMAZING! i highly recommend making the trip down for it next year.

One of the craziest fetivals I ever saw was the Notting Hill fesitval in London a couple of years back which is one of the biggest caribbean festivals in the world. It's a like 5 mile circle and there's a giant parade, and down ever side street there is something different, like DJs playing on the street with like huge crowds of people dancing, craft workshops, little street side stores, etc.
The parade is great, all there is is big 18 wheeler trucks all decorated, and the trailer of each truck is just a huge pile of speakers blasting out caribian music, salsa, reggae, jungle, etc. And people would follow the trailers dancing behind them

They block off like 10 5 mile radius around the circle, so no traffic, AND the best best part is, you can drink in the street there, so, as your dancing behind one of the trucks, you can stop and pick up a tall can of stella at one of the 100's of road size booze stands.

Fucking incredible.

BC's pretty sparsely populated, not really enough people around to support an event of that scale...

personally i'd take an event like Shambhala over a big-time rock festival anyday!

Its called the Calgary Stampede. It goes for two weekends and there is free breakfast every moring somewhere near by. And its a good breakfast like pancakes, sausage, bacon, and hashbrowns. The whole city shuts down for it. Yeah it mainly country and rock but all the clubs bring in big headliners too during the week. A few years back i saw felix, max graham and a few others in between Cowboys, Desparado's, and all the pubs on 17th ave. Free transit 24/7 and long long lines for the beer gardens by 1pm on Wednesday afternoon , how can u go wrong. And all the women

yeh we dont got the market for it out here. Europe can draw a 10,000+ crowd for a tin can with headphones.

Even Ozzfest stopped coming here, that festival had some huge names back in the day.

Maybe one day!

Stopped? It only came once....and it was packed. I don't think attendance was a deciding factor in coming back or not. I'm not sure why they haven't come back but I really don't think it was lack of ticket sales.
