No matter what it is, no matter how cool it is, no matter what good this might have it's not self-replicating. It just bunch of cubes with a very good control system(s) in it. If it could make a new cube then it would be self-replicating.

Using parts this robot has managed to reproduce another robot. As the new robot is being built it starts to help build itself.

The cube itself isn't the robot, the robot is a system of cubes. A particular cube is only a part of the robot. So this thing has managed to take the smallest possible building block and make a new robot.

If I were to replicate a house, I don't need to actually build the wood in order for it to be considered a replica do I?

Yeah, it should at least have to go out and find more cubes. It's not self-replicating if you've gotta stand there and help it do shit.
