organic gardening!

well, I don't personally garden.. but my parents have been doing this for quite some time. we even have a compost bin for fruit/vegetable skins and seeds that we use as soil. I think this summer, we've had the most fruits and vegetables than all the other years!

right now, we grow small amounts of strawberries, kiwis, grapes, cherries, apples (although they're VERY sour), carrots, green peppers (although we get the occasional mutated red pepper), oregano, eggplants, as well as a ton of cherry tomatoes, blueberries and raspberries.

it sounds like a lot of fruits and vegetables considering our property is not that big.. but somehow, it works. lol.

my favorite was probably when we grew our own corn. they were the sweetest ones ever.. but they only grew for only summer and never grew back :(

but above everything else, it's just really nice to be able to eat food that you know exactly where it came from.

anyone else grow fruits and vegetables in their backyard?

If I was more botanicaly gifted (?) and had a bigger backyard I'd totally grow my own veggies and stuff. My family used to before they sold our old house and moved to where they are now.
But after I move I think I might start my own lil patio herb garden. :) Basil, oregano, rosemary- mmmm.

We used to have a 100ft x 50-75ft garden with peas, beans (green, yellow and purple), snap peas, carrots, corn, lettuce, zucchinis, cucumbers, pumpkins, tomatoes, beets, spinach, green onions, radishes, big onions. Mmm I miss having that garden. Been w/out it for about a year and a half now, but I grew up on home grown veggies. :)

My mum spends her entire summer with her garden, she grows just about everything from potatoes, to peppers, to broccoli organically and it's HUGE. In her younger days she was a professional landscaper and always loved getting her hands dirty, so I really hope to inherit a lot of her knowledge. If I go visit her during the summer time, she's usually gardening and I love helping out, because living in a city limits my ability to do the same (I do have lots of plants, flowers and grow herbs like basil, chives, mint, oregano, sage, lavendar...)

nothing like eating a fresh organic strawberry right off the plant. nummy!

Oh the memories.. My family also had quite the veggie garden! Excellent corn, tomatoes, peas, carrots, potatoes every year!! We also had pear, apple, and cherry trees and strawberry and raspberry bushes!!

I could definately have a HUGE garden where I live now.. But theres just no time.. But I do have a windowsill garden consisting of mint, lavender, and basil ;D

i've got 2 gardens going, one at my parents house and another here at my boyfriends. obviously organic, chemicals creep the crap outta me.

we grow everything but my favorite is lettuce and beets. it sucks the weathers been wet and not so hot, but its made for a long lettuce season which kicks ass. every morning i pick my lettuce and pack a salad for lunch, so yummy!
