ipod help!

ok.. so, i just got an ipod shuffle..

and so, the itunes is installed (newest version)..
and the ipod is in the usb port..
BUT.. it's like the ipod doesn't exist... it's plugged in and everything..
and i went to iTunes.. then Preference's.. then ipod.. and it said "no ipod connected"

what do i do?????

Did you install the actual software that came with the iPod? Or is it just from a pre-installed capy of iTunes?

no it's the software that came with it.

Well, ipods love to be difficult so check for the following.

-installed iPod software
-iTunes up to date
-try a different USB slot, the ones in the front of pc's can be flaky
-Make sure when you plug your iPod into the pc that it shows the hardware was recognized at least, if it is and iTunes still isn't recognizing it then it's iTunes fault
-try a different iPod program if none of that works

it actually takes a good two minutes before the thing calibrates itself and shows up on the screen. at least on mine

Computers like it from behind, those front usb's never work for my mem stick.

a lot of people don't realize it, but half the time they aren't even connected. hah
