Does LoungeX have there own server or are they paying for the server themselves. Hmmmm. If they do get that much traffic, maybe they should consider running there own server. It MIGHT be cheaper.

Actually, Al was running banner ads there, and has been for as long as I cam remember. Don't your remember the bottom frame? It usually had a locally related rave ad in there at all times.

As for the future, Al was going to make it into a pay site. He believes (and as do I) that the community on LX is strong enough that people would gladly pay a small yearly fee of like 10 bucks to help keep the site going.

I would pay that without a second thought.

That website has provided me with literally complete months worth of entertainment, laughter, drama, intelligent debate, and most importantly, friends.

Ten bucks. The cost of two beer.

Even if you run you're own server, you have to pay for bandwidth.
Yes loungex is run on it's own server. Actually it's run off two different servers.

They do charge for the banners ads.

When the new loungex is finished, it will be a pay for membership board. To keep all the retards and riff raff from posting. You'll be able to read just not post. And no, it's not expensive.. like $10 for a year.

I totally agree with you. Getting people to pay might be kinda difficult. A lot of people will say they will pay, but i doubt most of them will. A party would be so much better. Since there are so many people on LoungeX, i'm sure there are a few Dj's that would DJ for free.

They could find more clients to advertise on the site. Clubvibes has so many people advertising on the site its crazy. Mind you CV has a lot of sister sites and is more large scale. Mind u CV has a bigger scope for the people there targetting. (19+).

If LX does go down, hopefully it won't be the continuing trend for electonica forums.

Al rarely makes money on a party. Unlike most promoters in Vancouver, he actually cares. A dozen or so years of debt is worth it, to him, in order for a thousand or so friends to have one fun night.

The community is strong enough on LX so that even if there are people put off by the "fee", that there will still be plenty of content to view. In fact, I'd say that the content will improve.

ClubVibes is run like a business.

LX is run like a hobby.

ClubVibes has also, by it's very concept alone, sold out.

LX still holds all of its integrity. I'd like it to stay that way.

Actually, I feel opposite of that.

I know Al pretty well, and sure! A lot who get along with Al would beg him for guestlist. I feel that since I know Al, and I support what he is doing with LX, I would be MORE inclined to pay for a party because I know that he is throwing the party out of pure love of the scene. I want to support Al, and to me, supporting Al is not begging for guestlist because I know him.

No, but they get no where near the the traffic, and hence they keep having to move servers, etc. Plus form and kaos has only been around for a short while. and loungex has been around for over 5 years.

i'm not sure of f&k's situation, but if it's free for them it wont last.
