car people

so i've got a small problem:

i was driving to work today when i started to hear this kind of squealing noise. now, i've heard the noise before.. rather quiet, and it came and went randomly.

now for some reason it started today, and then just got really loud. i started to get worried, until i played around and realized it was the stupid right side vent making the noise.

anyone know why it would suddenly just start doing this so loudly, and how i can fix it?

heeeelp me please.

Are you sure its the side vent, because squeeling noises usually come from the brakes, and they start off quiet, but in a weeks time if you dotn chek it out it becomes loud and squeeling. chek out the brakes.

no, it's not the brakes. i know what brake squealing sounds like (and i know i don't need my brakes done yet).

it has to be the vent, or something connected to it, because it ONLY makes noise when there's some airflow. as soon as i turn it all off, it stops completely. turn it back, even only a tiny bit, and it goes right up again. and it's only the right side.

Brake squeal should only be present when the brakes are applied. Random sqealing noise... drive belt??

Sounds can often be difficult to pinpoint where they are coming from.

^ yes, i have a/c.

if it's the belt on the a/c compressor, wouldn't it only do it when the a/c is running then?

no clue, its probably the fan that blows the air into the pasenger compartment. i wouldnt know why it would suddenly do it, probably just old age or soemthing.

It sounds like a belt or pulley problem. There could be dirt or something stuck in the pulley/belt.

To find out, pop the hood and grab a squirt bottle. Spray the pulleys and belts. *the twisty turny belts right up by your radiator * If it's dirt the sound should stop shortly. It's only a temporary solution though. You might need to have the belt reinstalled, half an hour worth of work. If it's a pulley, maybe an hour, hour and a half worths work.

If the sound doesn't go away go get it checked out.

What car is this? What engine?

To me it sounds like the fan belt ( but most new cars these days don't have one )
If you hear the sound more inside your car then i'd would probably say that there is something wrong with your HVAC fan.

probably just the fan that blows through the vent... they do that sometimes when they get old.
