I wouldn't recommend scraping off your V.I.N dood. There's information in the number that's specific to each and every vehicle. Without it, the car is going to be a bitch to repair.
There's one on the side of the door, under the hood, and on parts of the chasis.

Take that car into a shop after it's off and I guarantee they'll think it's stolen and probably report you to the cops.
