This will be felt around the trade deadline if we dont offload some cap space specially if we are making a viable cup run.

I heard a lot of people talking smack on the Team 1040 today, saying we've overpaid him.

OK, 1.5 mil a year is a LOT in the new economic system. BUT I think people aren't taking a hard enough look at just what we're getting for our money. Let's see, we get a guy who:

- Is 27 years old, in the prime of his career
- Has improved his game every season, including becoming a better contributer on the scoreboard.. a trend which may very well continue this season
- Works his ass off day in day out. Has a fantastic work ethic and attitude.
- Throws as thunderous a bodycheck as possible at his size
- Is a noted pest and great at getting opponents off their game and drawing penalties

I don't know, am I leaving anything out here?

- Love the city, loves his teammates, wants nothing more than to play here and be a part of a successful franchise.

Would've been nice if we could've got him for more like 1.2 or 1.3 a year, but I'd rather pay the extra 200,000 a year to keep him than the alternative.

Nuff said?

^ no doubt Matt Cooke is abig part of the canucks spirit.

Without him it leaves a huge hole in the heart of the Canucks.

If he can produce as he did in 2002 the canucks will do great this year. I have a good feeling the canucks will click as our stars are all in their primes.

I felt 1.35 would of been best odd number but it is enough to show respect to Cook and there be left room under the cap.

The only thing I want to ask you is what "greaddy" means.

I figured 1.2 million was the best number.

Pretty much this the team were gonna have this year. Its just a matter of who is left to get cut and thats it.

Pretty much the core

hes now the 4th highest paid forward on the canucks.

Who can say he doesn't deserve to be, either? (I know you weren't saying that). What Canucks player that isn't on the top line has done what he has for the team, besides Trevor Linden, who is on the downside of his career?

i don't think he's worth that much. there's no way he'll outscore a sedin.

that being said, we owed him for the peanuts we payed him the last few years. but all in all i'm glad to have him back on the team. now as long as he doesn't have one of those "i'm rich biatch! now i'll play half assed" seasons.

matt cooke is a valuable asset to the canucks. He is one of the hardest workers, is a great pesky player, and can chip in with at least 20 goals a season. I'm very glad the canucks signed him, although it is a lot, but he is definitely valuable to the club.

Linden has better stat numbers in his prime especially 1991-1995/96. He was still in his prime when the canucks went to the finals.

and as far as i know cooke has yet to hit 20 goals.

Are you nuts? Linden regularly scored 30+ goals at the prime of his carreer, Cooke has yet to score 20. They both play with a lot of heart but that's where the comparison ends.

lots of good players in lots of different sports have had that post big contract slump.

i just find it hard to justify a 3rd liner who's never had 20 goals is the 4th highest paid forward on our team. or any team for that matter.

Ya linden average 30+ goals for 4 straight years and 5 30 goal seasons in 6 years.

He was hitting 70-80 points even if the NHL was offensively oriented he was hitting way better number than cooke, as I said again the highest cooke has got in goals s 15.

20 goals scorer easily i d ou bt he might squeek 20 goals in one of the next two seasons

Looked over Cooke's scoring stats, and they weren't as good as I thought. Hopefully I'm right in thinking he's ready to take it to the next level.
