bongman - why u so negative towards solid corp..? ya its bullshit they make us pay alot but thats the way it goes!! We need as many companies as we can get to keep the scene going! So why dont u say something positive for once! Oh ya..u only say nice things to people who hook u up! or do they even hook u up?!?! Oh ya..Dont forget to tell me off! LOL!

If u want to rave it up..take what u can get! Stop complaining!

Well Spooky 8 was my first rave and ya it got alittle cold at some points but it was a nice big venue that allowed each room to be a fairly good size and little sound bleed if any......and considering ppl travel to vancouver from all over (for example I come from chilliwack, and I know of ppl that come from the island and all over the lower mainland) whats the difference if they come the other way and come into Chilliwack instead.....and anyways newer venues could allow the scene to grow a bit and allow companies to throw more elaborate parties considering the only real big venue there is right now is the PNE

I guess it's mostly been covered, but I'll have a stab at it too:

PROS:
  • Huge
    - 4 large stages... it's hard to beat that
    - Stage sound doesn't overlap much
    - There is enough room for people to get away from the blaring sound and chitchat, while still being in view of the DJ's that they came to see. This makes for an especially social party.
  • Cheap
    - Cheaper tickets
    - More talent
    - Better setup
  • Doesn't Overheat

CONS:
  • Far Away
    - This is partially alleviated by having a shuttle service. I took the shuttle (bus) to Spooky when it was at the Heritage Park and I enjoyed the ride out. It was chill and totally negated my irritation at having to travel that far. People who insist on driving (perhaps to the relief of the promoters) will have a harder time justifying the trip.
  • Cold as Fuck
    - I got a cold that lasted a week after Spooky at Heritage. Was uncomfortably cold for 1\2 of the party: basically whenever I wasn't in the midst of a hundred flailing ravers.
  • Cold as Fuck
    - Yeah... :) This could be fixed by bringing warm clothes, but is a promoter really going to put "bring warm clothes" on a rave flyer? Come on, I bet people would avoid the party if they thought they would be cold indoors. I'm not saying this to be down on the promoter, I'm just looking at things from a business aspect here. Experienced ravers themselves would have to take it apon each other to tell people to bring warm clothes. Nothing will stop 15 year old girls from coming in booty shorts, freezing, and coming home sick, though. That's a problem.
Truth be told though, Spooky at Heritage went off, cold or not.

I would go to another Heritage party.

Oh, and please don't pull that confiscation of glowsticks stunt like Twisted did (/me glares sideways at twisted). Would you believe that I smuggled glowsticks in under my shoes? Oh yes. It was mighty uncomfortable. Silly ravers do silly things when faced with silly rules! Especially me! :)

Chilliwack Hall - Tickets should be cheaper to attend there..plus, I live only 30 min from there (max time) :mexitoke: Therefore, it will save me money on the gas for the trip.

I have nothing positive to say about Solid Corp so I prefere to let the the negatives come out. Even if I wanted to what could I really say so so line ups for a so so venue shitty stages from what I have been told over priced tickets. Though I will admit they have some nice locals play thiere parties.

I would go to a party at the Chilliwack Hertiage Hall over the PNE, for these reasons:
(some have already been covered)

As far as temp...
-People wear more clothes (read: less skanks in shorts and bras)
-It's cooler for dancing
-We know there's fresh air coming in!

And other...
-It's a fresher venue
-It's a bit of a hike out, but hey, we travelled for Apex and others
-I really enjoyed Spooky 8 at this venue
-They were serving good food at spooky 8! I like food bc I get hungry in the middle of the night bc I don't drink or do drugs! Food is good.
-If AGROculture is throwing it, I know I'd like the lineup/crowd/vibe!

Granola bars, gum and the occasional piece of fruit available at most consessions doesn't cut it! And you're not allowed to bring anything in... so food being avail is good. Esp hot food, like they had there. Mmm. :)

Of course its gonna be cold in there guys. Did anyone notice what time of the month it was when we all went there. and you all know how the temperature is gonna be like at that time of the month? Think about it for a second. imagine in the spring or summer time how nice and warm it would be. I would most deff make my way to the hall for a party but throwing a show there would have to take some time to think it over.

I would definately go to a Chilliwack Heritage hall party, a new venue is always good and the cheaper tickets seem tempting rather than paying 65+ for a PNE party. I say go for it!!

the hall is an inappropriate venue for many reasons:

during the winter it is too difficult to heat.

the ground is inappropriate for dancing, or sitting... when i was last there i nearly choked to death on the dust, and got really dirty.

it lacks enough parking for a massive.

it lacks the facilities (different rooms, washrooms, etc) for a really big massive.

it wasnt built with sound quality in mind and the echo is quite bad.

its about a 50-60 minute drive from vancouver. (add 10-$20 in gas to the cost of any party)

the venue isnt really set up well to have separate rooms... twisted had all three in the same room, and this turned out very crappy.

regardless of all these things, it is probably much more economical and i can see parties taking place there in the fall or spring... but not the winter, frig that was cold.

Wow - I am amazed that you posted this seeing your information is so wrong.

It wasn't that hard to heat - the heat was accidently turned off somewhere during the night. They have ice arena style heating and it worked well during the day when there was no one there while setting up. Not to mention, the wind that day was upwards of 80km per hour, if you want me to, I am sure I can pull it up on the internet if you need proof.

You're right about the floor being inappropriate for sitting, that is why we had bleachers strategically placed throughout the venue for people to sit on. And I don't know how you got so dirty, cause I was there for 24 hours, and neither choked on dust or got dirty.

IT LACKS ENOUGH PARKING????? - the front parking lot alone could easily park everyone that would go to a Plaza party that is sold out, and lets not forget the 4 other lots in the rear of the same size.

It lacks facilities like washrooms? There were several different washrooms throughout the venue, larger than that at Plaza, and cleaner, and more of them. Oh might I add - with running water in them?

And if you are seriously talking about the lack of rooms, it just goes to show how spoiled you really are. Raves in Vancouver used to be one room when they were in warehouses. Get over it.

Of course it wasn't built for sound quality, it is a FREAKING barn. Neither were the above warehouses that parties used to be in. (I have pics if you need more proof) The Coliseum wasn't built with sound in mind either. Concerts there suck ass.

Yes the drive is long from Vancouver, but when I had to drive from Surrey to Vancouver, that was long too and it cost me $10 in gas.

Swing Kids and Twisted initially had it being 4 seperate environments, but when ticket sales weren't at 10,000 like we had forecasted, we did what we did so it didn't look empty cause that just gives you guys more things to complain about.

And it wasn't that crappy - you still paid for a ticket right?

i didnt see the lots in the back... nor did i know about the heating thing... all i know was that i nearly froze my ass off for a while there.
i also really did nearly choke to death on whatever was in the air. i guess you are lucky you didnt when i got home i hacked up a lung.

note also that i said it wasnt that bad a party place during spring or winter.
its def. decent to use if the price is right

spooky8 still remains one of my favorite BC parties, next to KISS04, and UNITE (as long as that lasted..)

you should try dancing your ass off one broken leg and a broken back and being one of the last people standing, I didin't have a problem with anything there. You get cold, you danced, you didin't find somewhere clean to sit - sit in the bleachers, get too hot - go outside. Sound? Well, wasen't anywhere but the trance side, and from where I was standing it sounded pretty damn good to me, considering I had perminant hearing damage from that party.

Thrillseekers, Lange & Rank1, oooof.
