RIP: Sonar Nightclub

This weekend (October 28-30) will be the last one for Sonar Nightclub in Gastown with the existing staff and management. Not really looking forward to what will be happening after that, but at least we can enjoy one last weekend as the place is decorated the max for Halloween (something like $2000 worth of film props in there that are actually worth about $6000).

From what I understand, Sunday will be the final night and all the old vets are expected to attend this one. I've had some great memories at that place, even with its confused layout. It's also had some of the best bar staff in the city in my opinion over the last few years... on top of some killer shows.

So if you don't have a ticket for Krafty Kuts tonight (Friday - that show is going to be a scalper's paradise) then I recommend you go Sunday for the very last night since those are the guys who put up all the decor anyways.

I'm a bit worried about the booze situation. Last night they said that because they were trying get rid of stock, they were out of certain kinds of alcohol. Like.. RUM.

After last night's booze fest, I can't imagine what's going to be left? Zambuca and Goldshlagger??

maybe this change will be good, lets just hope.

you should have been there at the last night of luvaffair.

we got there after we shut down the plaza, at 4am not only was there hardly any booze left, but customers were leaving with barstools and such as memorabilia.

ltj bukem, mark farina(way back -early mush jazz), goldie, ivanna santilli, POTD 1st appearance, man so many shows and shitfests, gongshows and blackouts, man this is kinda effecting me:(

the layout stopped confounding me after the 1st couple of years, and the sound at some point ceased to make my ears bleed, but the WALLS ACTAULLY SWEATING, that will stay with me for the rest of my life!

The best thing about luvaffair was going there on wednesdays getting the dj to toss on some NWA and then watching the goths get down to it.

Damn schedule has me working right through the stinkin' weekend, so I'm missing _everything_!!!!

I'm not even going to attempt to try to make it down there on Sun (since I'll not wrap till after last-call, anyway...).

But, the space doesn't make the place. What goes on _inside_ is what makes the place!!!

I remember being bummed, as well, when the Dump shut down, and was wary about Sonar opening (especially when they had metal detectors @ the door...), but, I ended up having tonz of brilliant times there!

Now, I'm bummed about losing another club.

But, the venue?

What's next for that space?

What's the word?

What kind of club is it going to morph into, this time?

Anyone wanna field those questions?...

Yeah. Great times at some of those Vivid nights. I even remember some of them! I had some gripes about Sonar, but in general it was one of the clubs I'd always count on to bring the goods.
