Burning Man on Malcom in the Middle

I just watched an episode of Malcom in the Middle where Malcom and his whole family go to Burning Man. I can't believe network television has gone down this road. The epsiode was funny but it doesn't help the fact that I think it is kind of a perversion/cheapening of the festival. What do you think?

Cheapening? If anything it showcases to the mainstream public that such festivals do exist in their boring world. I can understand the cry at cheese and other Hollywood washings but that is just how television reiterates reality. Personally I’m happy every time I’m lucky enough to catch the squawk box tell the tale of some worldly festival, makes you wonder how many other people are going to ask, "Hey, where was that".

But don't you think corporate involvement would muddy the water of such a festival?

Involvement in which way? Just because FOX figured it a laugh to take the show out to Burning Man, doesn't mean that FOX has any corporate ties to it. I highly doubt next year there will be a FOX News van with mobile shower guy as lead anchor.

You doubt it? really?.....I guess that is why we don't agree then.

Maybe not a FOX news van but more than likely a Red Bull stand or something similiar.

the media cheapens a lot of things, why should burning man be exempt? neither the show nor fox owe anything to the festival.

True but what about those who the festival owes something to. Those who built it up to what it is and those who have been attending before mainstream media got there.

yeah true, but that could be said about anything that the media tarnishes. i see what you're saying, but you're saying it because you like burning man. maybe no one else cares about it and they don't have to. it was a funny episode though.
