The real thing
Obviously one of the coolest motherfuckers on the planet i thought it was pretty fitting to name my dog after him.
Derek Watkins and his alter ego Mr. Bentley are rare experts in the expression of the arts and science of style. They believe there is always a meaningful and respectful expression of elegance in whatever they do. Their quiet mission is to show up in the most unexpected ways to demonstrate how we can better carry ourselves in the world with a little more care, love and dignity in what many call the Golden Age of Disrespect. With Mr Bentley, there are no slumped shoulders, no tattered pantlegs, no hipness to be confused with being slovenly. Instead, Mr. Bentley is there to make sure every seam is in place, color schemes are complimentary and everything from soup to nuts is the essence of “smooth.”How does one train to be such an eclectic expert—Watkins studied classical violin, graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in biology, went on to New York’s prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology, became one of the most popular Maitre D’s in New York City, and then really became well-known in the public eye as Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs’ high profile assistant (finding time to assist with the design of a line of clothes for Combs’company and appear in a number of his music videos). You recently saw Derek on MTV’s “Making of the Band 2” playing mentor and authority figure taking five aspiring musicians through the steps to be great and keep up the highest standard of appearances. What are Watkins and Bentley doing today? Most recently you see him strutting his stuff in “Outkast’s hit video “I like the way you move”. Derek also recently appeared in the feature 2003 feature film “ Honey”.And what about tomorrow…You never know, he’s hot right now. Stayed tuned…
