Power Outage in the West End this morning....

Laying in bed at about 9am this morning, I hear this big huge "woooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mp" outside my window... I swear to god, it sounded like a space ship landing outside. All the power went out in my apartment.... I freaked out, thinking it was BC hydro wishing me a happy new year, a warm reminder to pay my bill. I soon realized the whole power had gone out in the entire West End, from Bute street, right down to English Bay.

Turns out.... some guys were partying in a tent on the top of an apartment building in the early hours of the morning. I guess when the wind kicked up this morning, they decided to go inside. Leaving the tent out in the wind. The tent blew over, hitting the powerlines, blowing out the transformer, sending a current down the line to blow out the power to every building in the west end.

What a bunch of douche bags. No stores could open this morning (Safeway, Starbucks, Restaurants, ect), I couldn't get my frickin' car out of the underground parking lot to get myself to work. People were swarming out into the streets all morning with nothing to do... it was quite the spectacle. Power finally returned about 2:15pm - thank god!

Anyways, Thought i'd share the maddness of January 1st in the good old West end.

soooo i get home this mornin @ 10am still hammered, only to find that the power has gone out. now this was an inconvience, considering we have keycard entry and i live on the 16th floor. NO ELEVATORS i was sober and dizzy by the time i got to bed

Haha what idiots. I wouldn't have minded seeing a tent flying in the wind in the air haha.

i think the province said it was a patio umbrella! but my neighbours said they saw a tent on the powerlines, haha.
