Top 10 comedies of all time.

I'm trying to figure out a list of my top 10 comedies of all time.. I figure the best way for me to make sure I don't forget about anything crucial is to start this thread, cuz everyone loves to spout off about what they think is funny (including myself, apparently) so I know anything worthwhile will be mentioned. Then I can consider my list, and rank it.

You can put a reply in list form if you want, but I would just post a bunch of your favorites, because like me there's probably something really good you're forgetting that will get mentioned.

Only feature length movies, no TV shows or such.

Here why don't I start with what I've remembered (not ordered yet.. some are a lock for the top 10, some are on the bubble)

Team America: World Police
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut

Good comedies are so rare. In the past month or so I've been introduced to two new favorites, Anchorman and 40 Year Old Virgin.. the movies themselves only take a couple of hours but the jokes last for months :)

Right now Will Ferrel and Steve Carrel are engaged in a death match in my head for funniest man alive.

Honorable mentions that won't make the final cut:

Road Trip: Damn good movie, extremely funny parts, just not as out and out hilarious as Old School (but arguably with a better story).

The Wedding Singer: Again, nothing wrong with the movie, but skews 60/40 towards the "Romantic" side of Romantic Comedy

Lots of other Jim Carey movies: Great comedian has been in some not so great movies. Dumb and Dumber won't make top 5 but there's something about it that makes me always stop channel surfing when it's on TV. It'll probably cling to a lower place on the list; Ace Ventura, Liar Liar etc don't have a shot.

Old school was on the list I wrote down on paper, for some reason I forgot to put it up there. I even mentioned it when I was talking about Road Trip.

Groundhog Day is similar to Wedding Singer. Also Lost in Translation, another Bill Murray extravaganza, had some hilarious moments but was at heart not a pure comedy.

Ditto Rushmore, which was often more eccentric than flat out funny anyways.

Monty Python's Holy Grail is probably the worst slip up I've made. Instant top 10 lock, might make top 5. Life of Brian is on the bubble.

I've never seen Caddyshack!

Hah, interesting point. I didn't really think twice about standup comedians when I made that comment. Sure, change it to funniest actors.. if it was "funniest human being" then it would become a battle royale, as people like David Cross, Patton Oswalt, Lewis Black, Dave Chappelle and Dane Cook joined the fray.

Come to think of it, Chappelle and Cross have both done hilarious sketch comedy skits.

hahahaha.. I can't believe you mentioned Battle Royale.. are you referring to the original Japanese gore-fest with all the students on the island killing eachother? That was hilarious, albeit not a comedy.

a few honorable mentions: Fierce Creatures, Tootsie, Black Sheep, Tommy Boy, The Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Movie, Bowfinger, Young Frankenstein, The Monty Python movies

I can't believe The Graduate, Abbott and Costello.. and ANIMAL HOUSE weren't mentioned. Dr Strangelove as well.. they are all classic comedies that made way for comedic films today.
