all jokes aside, i love how people get all puffy and self righteous over this topic.

if you have a female friend who is being abused, a shit kicking to her abuser is only going to get her a wicked awesome beating.

violence begets violence. i wouldn't know where to start but one of those shelters, counselling and family would be a place to start. break the cycle since the vic usually goes back for seconds. or in most cases thirds and fourths.

reminds me of an incident many years ago in vic...

i'd been out at the club drinking with some friends, a couple of whom are particularly wasted. at the end of the night there are a bunch of people hanging around out front of the bar. my one friend is trying to talk to some girls, one of whom starts getting all up in his face, shouting at him, slapping him, shoving him. all he'd done was try to talk to her, he didn't put a hand on her. so after she's slapped him around a few times, he puts his hands up and gives her a little shove to get her off him.

that's when some other drunken meathead comes out of nowhere, screaming "YOU DON'T HIT A BITCH!!" and proceeds to lay a gargantuan beat-down on my poor friend. This guy's whole posse got in on the action, taking turns holding me & my other friend at bay while the others stomped my buddy's head & other body parts on the concrete. the chick at this point was jumping on buddy's head in her heels.

after the beatdown was done, we scraped up what was left of our unfortunate friend, threw him in the car & rushed him to the hospital, where he spent the next week recovering from multiple fractures to his jaw, broken ribs, etc. as i remember his jaw was wired shut for several weeks after the incident.

so yeah... don't hit a girl... or you may end up in the hospital.

i agree with the people who are saying that hitting/fighting in general is wrong. if i was in a situation however where my personal safety or that of someone i loved was endangered i would not hesitate to act in defense.

And although i have never worked at a shelter, i have been able to volunteer my help here and there, as i have both family and friends who are active in various organizations. All of which, still wouldnt give me the right, or the ability to share such a photo, and not get a serious reaming out.

If your in touch with brutalized, abused and marginalized women, wouldnt you be more prone to be a little sensitive about such photos? I dont know, maybe im just crazy.

i can see what you are saying here, i can . I level with a lot of the things you say on fnk. if you had a more constructive way of aproaching people with your thoughts you might find a greater chance for communication that leads to something positive. i'm not sure how you expect to change a persons thinking by attacking them. shouldn't your goal in speaking up about anything be too change the action to better your world? give your opinions more meaning than the selfish value of feeling 'right'.

I think there's a level of common sense involved here.
Most guys will go out of there way not to hit chicks.
Yet at a certain level the girl can choose to act outside the normal social protections afforded her ie: attacking him ect.
A buddy of mine summed this up with his expression

ps: About guys hitting girls. I'm not down with that. At the same time though, if a girl punched me in the face more then once I don't know what i'd do. If a chick acts like a guy, gets aggressive like a guy, and hits like a guy, i'd be likely inclined to treat her as a guy and act in kind. Or not. It's a pretty situational thing and it's never happened before so I couldn't tell you how things would unwind.
