"I don't have it anymore....."

I work in a university, and for legal reasons, namely, if someone gets married, we need to see their marriage certificate to verify names against transcripts. But the most common response I get(mostly from female students)...

"I don't have it anymore" - female student

"You burnt it didn't you?!" - me

"Yes" - female student

STOP BURNING YOUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE AFTER YOUR DIVORCE! IT IS YOUR LEGAL NAME CHANGE DOCUMENT AND VERY HARD AND EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE! IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO BURN IT, PHOTOCOPY IT FIRST, THEN BURN.
