I've been with PC Financial for chequing. but that's really a very liquid account... paycheck goes in, money is usually gone within 4 or 5 days. Not because I'm that quick going through my money (though sometimes I can be...) but mainly because I don't get any kind of decent interest there.

I have an Island Savings Credit Union savings account from back when i was on the island.

Though I do hear Coast Capital now has unlimited debit transactions going on now. I'm probably going to see about that. Honestly, the best deals I've seen in town though have all ben from Credit Unions.

PC Financial seems like a good deal unless you like the idea of having an actual bank (No, it is not subsidiary of CIBC, it's just the right to use CIBC equipment... which basically means you have a debit card, not a bank). I use it as a piggy bank.

Vancity had some decent deals... unlimited electronic withdrawals for $5 a month or something like that. They just got ranked #1 place to work in Canada in MacLeans or some shit like that. In general though you're insane for doing any kind of business anywhere other than a credit union. don't want my freaking money in toronto.

^^ Trust me, if you want to do anything other than use a debit card you'd be best to run far far away from PC Financial. As I said, it's not a bank, it's a debit card.

I was put into HSBC by my parents at an early age, and don't like it....I'm slowly moving stuff over to my Vancity account, they have been the most helpful bank outside of my experience with BoA.

So since Amicus bank is a subsidiary of CIBC and PC financial is a brand of Amicus bank, doesn't that group pc financial under the cibc umbrella?

*shrug*. It made sense to me but I really don't know.

In actuality CIBC does own PC Financial, this is true. But having a PC Financial account doesn't entitle you to the same things as a CIBC account. So, yes, you can use CIBC's equipment, but you don't get a teller, you don't get any kind of overdraft and if you want to make any changes to your account you basically have to apply over the internet. The closest thing you can get to a teller is someone at Superstore who will sit you down on the computer and show you how to do it.

It's not a bank. It's just owned by one.

If you're making anything more than 30 grand a year, you should not be with PC Financial.

:):):)

vancity is the best place i've worked at so far in my whole life!

i personally switched to vancity, because PC is not very convenient in terms of getting drafts, emergency cheques, being able to get cash when needed in case you have holds, etc, no branches, kind of sucks.. and Vancity has best rates on loans and mortgages...
TD is a rip off.. in PC in order to qualify for a loan, you have to make lots of money...

another thing... if u have vancity products such as credit cards, if u make payments to vancity cc, its avail. right away.. another great things u're able to do is make transfers within vancity accounts to other people... and its instant as well.
