Vancouver Canucks sign goalie Luongo to $27-million US, four-year deal

^ this is the part that interests me. What do you think? Fair or too much. 6 Million first year than 6.5 all the way up to 7.5 jesus.

Well for starters the Canucks dumped Bertuzzi and his 5.27 million salary. So when you look at it like that it's not a huge increase. Although this does make Loungo the highest paid goalie in the NHL.

Keep in mind pre salary cap there were several players at the 9 to 11 million range.

i'm not that big on paying an unproven player that much, but let's face facts, besides brodeur and kipper there's no one else even close.

he's an elite goalie. i'm happy we have him long term. but wow we're gonna get mashed if he pulls a theodore. or turco.

realistically though, during the next 4 years he should be wiping cloutier from the books in every category, and becoming #1 in every goalie record this team has.

having luongo in net automatically makes us a contender. which automatically makes us a better destination for free agents or trades.

Im really excited to see him in Van.. with the way the Sedin line is shapin up + him + maybe move Jovo and get a good player to play with Nassy? What forward is good enough and tradeable I wonder?

Don't forget though Khabibulan stock rose when he won the stanley cup with tampa hence the 6 million highest goalie salary.

Luongo is still unproven in the playoff's though i do believe he is definetly top 5 goalie m aterial.
