WoW: Burning Crusade Delayed Until January 2007

Publisher Vivendi issued a statement following a flurry of Internet rumors. The add-on was to be released at the end of November, but has been held back due to some minor problems found in the Beta.

Vivendi says Blizzard won't release the game until it's completely happy with the product, despite missing the key selling season. Clearly, this add-on was going to be underneath some Christmas trees come December 25th.

The official release stated, "Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game."

Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard said, "We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content. We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.”

One tester told Next-Gen, "The game runs just fine and there's really very little that's wrong with it, but you see some glitches from time to time, such as character texture drop-outs."

one of the things i love the most about Blizzard is thier steadfast adherance to quality over imposed release dates. Nintendo, Rare, and maybe Bungie (when they aren't trying to make a launch a title) are some of the few that follow the rule of "it'll be out when't it's ready to come out."

Too many companies try to shove half-finished games to market just because some suit decided that the game needs to come out by a certain date and doesn't give adequate estimates for milestones...
