Yes, it generates audiences by monitoring how many seconds you watch a certain Ad or show and then they sell that information.

The Apple Store (Canada) - Elgato EyeTV Hybrid

There are tuners like this but it says that you can only access digital program menus in the US. But it says that it can play HD and digital content as well as perform PVR functions. Plus, for me, having the content saved on a computer directly is more interesting then on a pvr box.

Yet the world of TV advertising is about to become a lot more scientific. On June 2, personal-video-recorder outfit TiVo (TIVO ) unveiled an analytical tool that can tell advertisers, agencies, and networks not only how many people tune in for a show but whether they're watching the ads. Unlike a Nielsen rating, which relies on surveys filled out by viewers, TiVo's system tracks what a viewer records and tunes into, even when the channel is changed -- although, thankfully, it still doesn't know if you head for the kitchen for something to eat.

I support the writer's strike, but I really do miss Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Like a lot.
On the plus side, I've been watching more of The Hour with George Strombolhighschoolcrushopolous.

Since the only thing thats going to be on is reruns of the same shows , its possible people are going to ( if not already ) get bored and find something else to do. Maybe it will encourage that large population of sedentary people to get off their butts and do something a little bit more active , like getting outside , taking up a hobby...sitting their asses on the internet instead? Lol...
Nah. DVD sales will just spike, that's all.

Although I caught this show last night....Man Vs Wild......wow. Its fucking crazy...this guy is an ex - SAS ... they drop him in the middle of a forest or out in some remote part of a country , and the whole show he shows you how you'd survive and what you'd eat , about the terrain...etc..
They dropped him in the Australian Outback last night....quite interesting...
so....so it's exactly like the better known show Survivorman?
