Season Finale's - Is It Me Or?

I'm up to a count of 4 shows now where this is the case.

I DUNNO BUT WE HAVE TO MOVE THE ISLAND.

Two words:

Contract negotiation.

People sign on for x seasons, the contract is up, producers have an option: re-sign the actor (likely for more than they were working before) or write them off.

Let's see here,
- Denise Crosby left Star Trek: TNG at the end of the first season
- Erin Daniels left The L Word at the end of Season 3
- Michael Shanks left Stargate SG-1 at the end of Season 5

Cliffhanger season finales have always been pretty huge too. It's a storytelling hook... a gimmick. And it dates back to Flash Gordon featuring Buster Crabbe.

This is why i loved The Wire, that show was so well written they didn't have to resort to overly dramatic cliffhangers and they killed off main characters in the most mundane realistic way...Of course it was written like a novel so alot of people found it hard to follow, ive watched every episode 2-3 times and still catch new stuff.
