yeah a design flaw in the early consoles made some of them overheat
new consoles are pushing the limits of what you can fit in that form factor because they generate so much heat

what can you do at that point? they extended the warranty to 3 years and have been replacing peoples boxes pretty liberally, new design shouldn't have that issue

Yeah, that's pretty much all they can do at that point, but is it really so much to ask for a quality product from the get-go rather than trying to mitigate their bad reputation by extending their warranties? What about after the warranty runs out? Are people supposed to just buy a new console every three years? Nintendo doesn't seem to need to do that...

nintendo also doesn't seem to need to do things like push graphics boundaries or make a media machine with things like disk drives which up the complexity a lot. i mean a wii's guts are just a baby step up from a gamecube which theyve had years to perfect. they have built a reliable toy game system for casual users and its sturdiness will show that, but also so will its game library.

if you compare it to sony it's a whole other ball game, as sony doesn't even make the type of console you could buy at launch anymore, to duplicate the features of your launch console you would need to buy a ps3 + usb hub + a ps2 which is completely ridiculous and far more anti-consumer.
