As far as I know the decision was made to change Soundwave because a cassette player really wouldn't fit in with the modern tech. I mean for all of us who are nostalgic over the old cartoon it kinda sucks but it really does make sense.

The thing I'm curious about is how much of a role the character will have. Will they just have the voice seeing as he's supposed to be an orbiting satellite? That would certainly be lame!

people were bitching before the first movie that came out when megatron was announced to be a jet instead of a gun - but failed to realize how retarded megatron actually was what with the shrinking and the requiring someone else to shoot him and the metal mullet...
