You gotta admit that this is worse than ripping music. At least if you rip off music you can either choose to see a band live and on top of that they get royalties when the song plays on the radio. The only way movie people make money is if people pay to see the movie... end of story.

I'm not preaching... hell I'd probably do it too but I can at least understand what they're whining about.

Not true...licensing, etc can also bring in a pretty penny...although I'll admit that I suspect that anyone who was enough of a fan of a given flick to buy something licensed from it likely would have gone to see it in the theatre in the first place.

^Liscenced goods don't bring in enough money to cover the costs of making a film all the time.... there are literally thousands of employess involved from start to finish. Seriously the sale of a t-shirt and the amount that actually goes towards the film makers isn't always enough to subsidize the whole film.

oh it is worse, i'm not disagreeing there. if i like a movie, i've either seen it in theatres, i rent it or i buy the dvd.

i just find those ads amusing, like how he compares it to stealing a chocolate bar. lol.

i've done it before, and it won't stop because it's just easy. but i don't do it for everything, and that's enough for me.

I don't know that downloading movies is stealing directly from the individuals that made it. And if it does, then the stuntman or the set builder or what have you is pretty ridiculous for doing work and basically saying, "just pay me if you make enough money". I imagine if anything downloading movies would be ripping off those who funded the film rather than the "little guys".

That said, I usually watch movies in the theater or rent them in addition to downloading them. But then some movies just aren't good enough to pay for. Wired Magazine had an interesting alternative to how things currently work this month (http://wired.com/wired/archive/12.01/mpaa.html).
