*sigh*

this is a japanese film (with english subtitles), that brings forth the question; what memory would you take to eternity?

this movie was playing in select theatres earlier this year. but it was originally released back in 1998. i anticipated this movie for over a year, since i first heard about it. but i couldn't find the time to catch it while it was in the theatres, since screenings were scarce. i finally managed to get my hands on the dvd version (gotta love shopping online).

the film was directed by kore-eda hirokazu. he's made a few extraordinary films that i've seen. most of u guys probably haven't heard of him, so i'll spare my fascination with him...

this movie is absolutely astonishing. u know how u read reviews like, "BREATHTAKING!" or "AMAZING!" and "BRILLIANT...!" well, i just finished watching the movie, and i can truthfully say, this film took my breath away.

it's not a kung-fu hollywood FX teeny bopping thriller rolling in dough movie. so everyone who watched american pie 2, rush hour 2, or legally blonde, beware.

it's the kinda movie that you watch and try to reflect on your own life. the kind of movie that makes you want to change, and be a different person, a person defined in the movie.

anyhow... the scenery in the film is beautiful, the "japanese rustic look" setting had my tongue hanging out of my mouth... it's quite a slow paced movie, very quiet, the subtitles and the excellent screenplay actually convinced me that i was lulled deep into a good book...

i doubt u can find this movie at blockbuster or rogers, but if u can find it, i'd recommend it to anyone that enjoys a nice, soft movie, and maybe a few tears in the end...

yea i almost cried... the phone seriously rang a second before the tears were to escape my eyes... phew...

and the main guy character looks like a japanese leonardo di caprio... very cute. not that leonardo is cute. but this guy is.
