I'm actually looking forward to seeing a Vin Diesel movie.

WTF is wrong with me?

If it's as cool as the trailer looks, this one should be good.

What do you guys think? Dune or Battlefield Earth?

The reason pitch black didn't suck is that it was made before vin deisel was vin deisel.

i remember when i went to watch van helsing and the preview for Riddick came on the screen. Firt reaction was holy this shit looks promising then out of no where i turn to my buddy "omfg i think vinny is in this" . Next scene he shows up on the screen and instantly i turn to ym friend again and say "guess were not watching this movie anymore". none the less i think i will give it a download or perhaps a rental

I haven't completely dispelled Vin Diesel yet.

Though I think he's like Sly Stallone with a lobotomy, I've found you need at least a few brain cells to make anything out of the entertainment industry.

I'll wait for some trusted reviews. If they don't say "Greatest Sci-Fi in a long time" or "Complete and utter trite" I'll probably rent. The former may drive me to the theatre. The latter will definately place it on the "Vin Diesel" shelf.

It won't be. Pitch Black is a survival sci fi horror. It deals w/ a much smaller group of characters and their trials to survive a horribly inhospitable world running rampant w/ critters. Chronicles seems to be more akin to Star Wars in that it deals with one lone hero (Riddick) against a universe of evil bent on destruction and subjugation. Wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of superweapon in the movie a la the Death Star.

i love watching movie trailers. i agree with you that sometimes they can be better than the actual movies themselves. they're short, show you the good stuff, and are sometimes more powerful than the actual movie.

sometimes the previews before a movie are the best part of the movie.

as for the Battlefield Earth thing...i didn't see the movie (heard it was really bad) but i read the book which despite being uber uber long, was really really good.

Star Wars dealt with many heroes, really. That's why I mentioned Dune. The scale of the look and the whole Regal theme it seems to have would parallel it rather well. It'd be nice if it was a cool hero-quest style with a Dune-like tone to it. Frankly that's what drew me into the trailer in the first place...

I doubt very much it will be a quest movie a la Dune or LOTR. Seems more likely to be a straight up sci-fi action movie. "We have to go to blah blah place to stop blah from activating blah blah device and converting all of blah into blahs, oh yeah, and we have to kill A LOT of blahs to do it"

There, that is my movie synopsis.

Ah well, if I so happend to have the excess income, I shall see it, although I really miss cheap tuesdays...

Supposedly, yes that was his break out movie, but if you ask me his best performance was in Saving Private Ryan. I thought that was a pretty powerful performance on his part.

Affleck isn't a bad actor, just a horrible script chooser and an unfortunate victim of the Heartthrob complex.

It wont. That was a low budget movie made by a cast of no-names by an honest and earnest director - the result was a self respecting movie that did a lot out of a little. Chronicles is a super-mega-blockbuster, dripping with too much money (likely funneled into bad CG effects) and a cast that can't act (Judy Dench being the major exception). I think the atmosphere they're going for is WWF (or its WWE now, isnt it?) - if you like pro wrestling, I guarantee you will enjoy this movie. If not, You'll likely wish you had your 13 bucks back.

Oddly enough, the game Chronicals Of Riddick scored unusually high marks from the EGM crew (whom are notorious for being merciless when it comes to game tie-ins to movies), some even going so far as to saying it actually made them fans of Diesel. Mind,the game isn't based directly on the movie, but it does apparently retain the same atmosphere that Pitch Black exhibited, along with the same dark characterization of Riddick.

If they put that much effort into making the game that good (a rare occurance when it comes to games based on movies, really), this has really piqued my interest in the movie now.
