hmmm, we can sit here and watch the fan boys go to town like they always do whenever a new console drops, or we could just relax and check it out when it's actually released and got some games to check out.

or you can look at the technical specs and come to your own conclusions on what the system can do. then double it because the developers can pull that much more out of the system. plus i've seen no "fan boy cock wagging" in this thead, just people expressing their excitement for the next-gen consoles.

anyways the ps3 and the 360 both have amazing specs, i cant want for some working titles to see what kind of power the developers can get out of these monster systems. luckily they're not being released around the same time, now i can get both at launch :)

specs mean shit if you don't have the games to back it up. Both will be impressive and we've pretty much gotten to the point where the graphics bar is so high that any improvements aren't going to be immediately noticable.

I'm just hoping some original and creative games make it out so that we don't see wads of "me-too" crap franchises from the few companies that can still afford to make big-budget games (cough - EA - cough)...

i totally agree the the specs dont make the game but you need processing power and lots of ram to make a decent looking game with a stable fps. tech specs make all the difference, because they set the limit for what developers can and cant do with a system.

IGN has a really good, comprehensive breakdown of the PS3. Plus, they have a new section on both the PS3, and the Xbox 360.

In my opinion, the ps3 looks awesome, and is the sleekest, most savvy design. I just hate the controller. They should release a version 2. Xbox looks like a Mac... and therefore is the cutest looking one haha.

Nintendo Revolution is definitely the ugliest, and looks to be the weakest system of the 3 (specs-wise).

I'm definitely investing in a PS3. Sony knows what they're doing. Plus watching the game demos would make anyone cream themselves.

Time to start saving up. In the past I've never bought a system at release cuz its just too damn expensive. Actually, we may have gotten the SMS on release, but can't remember. But I'm going to have to make an exception for this machine. Finally HDTV gaming comes standard. Plus full backwards compatability. And can you imagine what a game is going to be like if they fill those new discs up? 50GB is insane storage capacity.

That's the biggest issue tho - too many companies spend the resources and money on how the game looks more than how the game plays. And try to hide either weak or re-hashed gameplay with high-polygon count and high framerate and all these bells and whistles like dynamic lighting and particle effects.

A lot of companies have an "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" attitude and don't push enough boundaries in game design.

Ok, so these next gen systems are powerful - but we're currently not going to ever really see that amazing jump in gameplay design that we did when we went from 16-bit to 32-bit (2d to 3d) rather than just making the same old games that look prettier, i wish a lot of companies would take chances and innovate on new gameplay ideas (not saying that some don't, but a lot of companies are confortable resting their laurels on tried-and-true "franchises" simply because they have a name-value).

Seeing all the new games is killing me. Devil May Cry 4, WarHammer, Scarface, Killzone 2, 2 days in vegas just to name a few. and a good move on ps3's part offering 3 different colors. getting the white one for sure. asian styles lol
