need computer upgrade

i need to upgrade my shitty pc for intense gaming "lagging-free"

current:

asus a7v8x-x
athlon xp 2500+ (1.82ghz)
1280 ddr
radeon9600 pro 128mb

should i wait a while for more pci-e video cards to come out?
*Radeon x1800 series & GeForce 7800 gtx*

though they are estimate $600~800+ price tag, i probably can't afford them

my options: (on a tight buddet)

1)
- Athlon xp 3700+ / Athlon xp 3500+
- Radeon x850 pro

2)
- upgrade motherboard that has pci-e support
- athlon64 3500+
- *save up money for 7800gtx 512mb*

i almost have the same computer you do, what games are you trying to run that "lag"? also, if youre on a tight budget and you still wana upgrade your comp, you should wait till boxing day and then hit up a reputable computer store

ugh.. don't waste your money on an XP and AGP vid card. try to get a pci-e s939 mobo so you can upgrade to dualcore later on. The 7800gtx 512 wont be out for a bit longer, but all the 256 versions of the GTX will be dropped in price once it comes out. If you're not that avid of a gamer and really aren't worried about top notch graphics, you could spend around $350-$400 on a 7800GT. It'll do ya good :)

Lucky for me I have a brother who knows alot about computers and I get all my info from him and go through him for all the parts I need. Computers tend to confuse me a little. hehe
I game quite a bit also, but I only play one game (Lineage 2). Think I might get some more ram though (even though I'm told I don't need it. lol)
