Jelly shoes

They have returned! Why or why? Pretty soon I'll be seeing push down socks, leg warmers and acid washed jeans. UGH!

Jelly shoes for people who don't know are shoes made of a porous PVC rubber product called jelly rubber. Jelly shoes come in a variety of brands and colors. Jelly shoes were very popular in the 1980s, when a pair could frequently be purchased for under a dollar. They resembled sandals and were most commonly flat shoes with little or no heel. Related are flip flops and sandals. Jelly shoes are making a comeback in the form of flats.

I'm my opinion they're pretty hideous and tacky. I would assume "crocs" paved the way for them. Which are also pretty hideous in my opinion.



I did find a pretty cool pair. Here though.



Not a bad idea for the environment, because these could be made from post consumer plastics. A good way to recycle, but they'll just end up getting mass produced in china with fresh plastic.

Actually, I was implying more on the trendy 80's jelly shoes that are back in fashion now.

The "crocs" are actually more orthopedic and were introduced in the hospital setting years ago and has since grown. Hideous perhaps, but very very comfortable on the heels and the soles of the feet.

I know, I can't believe they are back.

The thing is, they are going to make some jelly shoes and try to sell a pair of jelly flats for like 50+ when they used to be 5 dollar shoes you rocked as a little kid :P not too sure if i'm into it, that plastic + walking + hot summer weather wouldn't make them very comfortable

I remember the not so nice squishy feeling in the hot summer sun, and the ridiculous tan lines when I wore them to the beach.

The insanity of trying to sell a shoe completely made out of plastic for $50+ is beyond my comprehension.

Fuck I hate Crocs.
And what I REALLY don't understand about them is how it's OK to wear them in a hospital when they are full of holes! Isn't it supposed to be hospital policy that all shoes must be closed-toe? I don't see how that is safe...I told Tim that if he even THINKS of wearing these damn things when he starts med school I will burn them! haha.

I don't know about the jellys, but I own a pair of the crocs. Not the most attractive footwear I admit; but they are great for walking in the water on a rocky beach.

Och... I gave in to buying tights, but jelly shoes are nothing but child hood memories. Whats next TMNT slip ons or maybe the grunge erra will return with plad shirts?
