how do you quote only a few words from someone's statement?

i have tried hilighting them. i have tried deleting the rest but it doesn't work. well it does but they don't show up in bold

well if you dont wanna say who your quoting then just put quote and /quote in the []

when you hit the quote button it quotes the entire post. so just delete the stuff you don't want.
