Why won't my animated avitar do its thing??

You might have animated gif blocker enabled. Or a script blocker. Or an ad-blocker. Or a firewall (ZoneAlarm disables animated gifs in its advanced options somewhere).

Check all your running programs and background services to make sure that they don't have some kind of a web filter that stops animated gifs from animating.
