why don't you make an image with your post count number and use that as your avatar. you'd have to update after like every post, but hey, at least everyone will see it then! the effort will totally be worth it.

I wouldn't really care if those were gone either.

Personally I think it's better to have the trivial things like post counts and join dates hidden just to avoid the instant attitudes based on how long or how much time a person is on the site. A lot easier on the newbs in particular.
