My xbox 360 friends. RIP My 360

Well,

I'm a tad depressed cause I just bought a new HDTV and now its pretty much useless until I get paid.
After playing expert in the tier 2 songs of Rock Band, I turned off the game (i got pissed off, it was hard)
Then I wanted to play NFS MW, I turn the console back on and BLAMMO
the red ring of death.
Power cycled, no love.
You tube is being slow, so i'll try the fix tomorrow.
I had a good almost 3 year run with the console.

Now, i'm unsure of what to do.

Should I:
A - Pick up another 360 with HDMI?
B - Pick up a PS3
or C: A nintendo wii?


I'm actually not that pissed off considering I purchased it from some dude on the internets, god know's what he did with it.
But, in the late summer of 2007, i was having problems with it. The tray would sometimes not eject and I'd have to stick a knife in it to eject the disc (no, that's not what caused it and yes I tried "safer" ways of ejecting the tray)

I know my instruments would work with a ps3 but 360 has some exclusive games coming out later this year like Ninja Gaiden 2, Condemned 2 and the always entertain Resident Evil 5.

When I do pick up the new console, whatever that is. Please join me on a last hurrah of my deceased xbox 360, we're going to take the console for some drinks at a local drinking hole in downtown vancouver, after we're good and shittered. We're going to head over to the burrard St. bridge.

send it to ms, if its not reported stolen they will fix it. 3 year warranty service on RRoD. they dont care about proof of purchase as every system falls in to this warranty period. a couple of my friends even sent their modded systems in without warranty stickers and got a refurb back.

yea, microsoft basically extended all warranties for the 360 by another three years due to pretty much every xbox failing within 2 or 3 years. Just keep the HD, send it back and they'll send you a replacement.

Every Nintendo console since NES still works to this day with minor maintenance (q-tips for the originals, that's about it).

I can count on one hand the number of broken down Nintendo consoles I've physically seen in my entire life.

the red ring of death debacle has cost microsoft a billion dollars so far.

My PS2 I purchased at launch back in 2001 is on its last legs but it still plays ps2 games.

no, but it did once play ps1 games and now it doesn't. Actually, I think it only plays DVDs and not CDs.

my NES still works like a charm...... you just gotta jiggle it the right way and blow in the game cartridge a few times and shes good to go.

Wiis are not just for children.

What the major appeal of the Wii is that non-gamers are picking them up in droves.

They know how many people get together with their consoles and drink. Have you played Marioparty? Do you know how ridiculously fun that is to get together with a bunch of adults, get plastered and play?

The thing is that Wii doesn't appeal to the hardcore gamer, who represent such a large voice of the gaming consumer market. That being said, these days the bite doesn't really match the barking. Look at the console sales in Japan last year. Over 3 million Wiis sold. The PS3 didn't even break 2mil. North America is showing similar results, and it's not the kids that are buying Wiis, it's the youths and young adults THAT AREN'T HARDCORE GAMERS.

Yes, it's a toy - that's what Nintendo makes. However, to say that it's solely a children's toy is just being ignorant to who is buying and using these systems.

Check out Nintendo's Wii advertisement site. They don't market it to kids. They know kids will want one anyways. These consoles are being marketed to basically anybody EXCEPT teenagers (who will mostly go for the PS3/360). Until now that teenage market represented a large majority of the video game market. Wii has changed that remarkably. Everybody else needs to play catchup now.

^It's also funny how the only console that is regularly sold out in the big box retailers is the wii.

They literally can't keep them on the shelves for more than a couple hours after a shipment comes in.

I say find me a freaking manufacturer that can pump out 4 million high-tech high-quality units in a year.

Only reason they're selling them out like crazy is because Nintendo refuses to fix up prices to meet demand. One of their main selling points is that they're economical, and unlike Microsoft Nintendo makes money on every console they sell, so there's no real reason for them to jack up the price. If people have to wait for their Wiis, all the better because then that's more revenue packed in on your next shipment.

Basically Nintendo wins this round, despite the hardcore-gamer-elite's claims and wishes otherwise. Heck, they almost waltzed right through The Art Of War on this one... told Microsoft "Heh. You go first". and then Microsoft sells less than 300k units in Japan in 2007. Granted, they're more geared towards North American markets, but jesus that's just plain inexcusable. You've got a technology product that can't even break a quarter million consoles sold in one of the biggest tech countries in the world? Game over man, game over.

the original xbox had the same problem in the japanese market, for whatever reason the xbox just doesn't appeal to japanese consumers. probably because the dearth of rpg's availible on microsoft equipment

I almost cried when I read the news, but I'm glad to hear things are going well. I've been so happy with my xbox that if anything were to happen to it, I may even consider buying a replacement one while my xbox was being sent away. I have a PS3 as well, but I have left it in the dust since I got my 360.

I agree with rawb and Jim

Eventually i'm going to have all three systems. I hope that sometime (if not now) there's a a/b/c switch that has 2 hdmi and composite (for the wii)
And obviously PS3 has a few good games.. but I can count them all on one hand.

Wii - I dont like the FPS' so far, playing COD was difficult and I didnt like it.
hopefully the zapper will provide better accuracy and easier controls.

obviously all 3 consoles have something to offer, it's just the wii has less. its not on the same level as the other 2 nor is it meant to be. its a toy.
i know what the appeal of the wii is, but its not for everyone.
