Happy (pre-emptive) Birthday FFA!

Approximately 4 years ago, in January of 2001, I started frequenting a little-known raver clubnight entitled "Cheeky", where we would be treated to the sound stylings of house, techno and trance.

At the helm of this night were three gentlemen. Steve, J.J. and Farshad Abasi.

Early on, Farshad flagged me down and started talking to me about music... mainly because he'd drop tracks like Olav Basoski's remix of Bodyrock or Junior Jack's My Feeling and I'd be all getting down.

Soon, we'd start having musical geek-out sessions, chilling out at his place hours on end, I'd learn how to beatmatch and we'd play all kinds of HiNRG, Cheeseball trance and full on gay house.

Since then he's proven to be one of the best friends one could have, constantly a driving force of my life as I'm sure of countless others. He's introduced me to plenty life-changing concepts and ideas, from introducing me to Celestine Prophecy and Snow Crash (and thus sealing my love affair with music, movies and microcode, and making me realize how powerful Google really is....).

Last year Farshad had a birthday party. 500 fucking people showed up. The best part of that party was that you could ask _ANYBODY_ "How do you know Farshad?" and they'd have some story to tell.

This is a man who has definately affected this scene. He's been around since the word "Rave" meant something, and one of the few people left who still fit my original definition of the word "old school". On top of that, he still forever has a smile on his face, his hand in the air, and a groove in his hip.

So give props where props are due, muthafuckas.

Sykonee: nothing like a little No Limit action ;-) Yeah, 2Unlimited were partly responsible for me getting into "techno"... back then every thing was called techno. I remember going to A&B Sound, asking the guy for the CD that has this techno song called "Get Ready for this"... he then presented to me a copy of Chris Sheppard's Techno Trip vo. 1... (those who hate the man, you can laugh all you want, but Mr. Sheppard brought techno and raving to Canada, and that compilation is essential! ;-)

anyhow....

all those who wanna get me drunk and partake in the official b-day celebrations are invited to Big Trouble @ The Lotus this Wednesday!

You've been one of my favourite drinking partners since day 1.

I'm going to see if I can pull some strings and get out of work on wednesday and make it down.

Regardless of whether I make it or not, the turkeys and jager bombs should flow like water.

Farshad is one of the most genuine and nicest people I have ever met in my life.

If anyone deserves to be happy on their birthday it's you man.

Farshad is one of those people with a totally contagious smile. Seriously, I can't think of a time in the 4 years of knowing him that I haven't had a huge smile on my face when I was around him.

You'll do this birthday proper! I'll see you Thursday night, and yes, we'll still party like it's yo' birthday then :cake:

I could theoretically even hop a ferry and come out tonight. Sadly I'm too broke. And I work tomorrow morning at 10.

HOWEVER, my friend Monica has been wanting to come out to Big Trouble, and since my days off switch to Wed/Thur next week, the two of us will prolly be hopping a ferry next week. So save some of that drinking action for my arrival!
