Aesop Rock

So he's playing a show at the Commodore on October 26th which is SO exciting.
Tickets go on sale in like a week or something but I was wondering if anyone knows the presale code so I could just buy my ticket and get it over with.

Anyone?

Hmm....i dunno how good of a show he'd put on

the only aesop tracks i've ever really liked were "No Regrets" and "Night Light"......a lot of the other shit was just too weird or not very good-sounding...maybe i just havent heard the right stuff

anyone got some other good aesop tracks?

He's one of the most prolific hip hop artists out there... have you listened to his lyrics?
They're so obscure and full of metaphors and other poetic devices - honestly he's a brilliant writer and his music is gorgeous.
Listen to:
Basic Cable, Battery, Daylight, The Active Element, and No Regrets

Aesop puts on an amazing show.... All of the Def Jux guys do..plus they have the most forward thinking beats in hip hop right now... Def sounds different and more original than anyone out there... Im for sure gonna hit this up...

yeah but there's a line between good lyrics and good music.....there are a lot of underground rappers that can come up with some crazy concepts and impressive rhymes but their songs aren't good to listen to.......this is what i find aesop falling under from most of what i've heard from him.....i'm not saying he isn't a great hip hop artist.....but his songs just arent that great to listen to musically....jumper cables is a good example of what i'm talking about.....i wouldn't say it is a universally good song......most ppl would not enjoy listening to it unless they had a certain knowledge/appreciation for unique beats and rhyming (which most ppl don't)

it's kinda like really fucked up abstract modern art.....you can respect the idea behind it and appreciate it, but it isnt as aesthetically appealing as a beautiful sculpture/painting....it's pretty much two different things...just whatever you're looking i guess

check out louis logic if you wanna hear sick lyrics in songs that could appeal to anyone

dave, I guess it all comes down to personal opinion...cus I feel the same way about louis logic as you do with aesop... I cant stand to listen to louis cus I think he bites del's flow. One thing I dont understand is that you think people dont appreciate unique beats and rhyming...cus if thats the truth, then its a sad world we live in...anyways...to each their own.

I would say his newest one for sure represents his "current" sound, as production value is right up there...

Listen to that promo album that was posted ( Your download is protected by LINK-PROTECTOR.COM )

... I think "none shall pass" is a sick track... has a 4/4 beat.

I also really like his older stuff... check out "music for the earth worm" and "labour days"....

THE GUY OBVIOUSLY PUTS IN WORK AND SHIT, BUT TO ME HIS STUFF IS TOO BORING SONGWISE FOR ME TO PUT ON AT A HOUSEPARTY, AND YET NOT INTERESTING ENOUGH FOR ME TO LISTEN TO ON MY OWN.

IT'S LIKE A NAS ALBUM WITH A MUCH MORE DELIBERATE FLOW, WORSE PRODUCTION. BIG FAT WHATEVERS. I HAVE LOVE FOR A FEW INTROSPECTIVE WHITE GUYS RHYMING IN MY LIFE, BUT I HAVE TO DRAW THE LINE SOMEWHERE.

I saw him the last time he came through. Mr. Lif totally stole the show that night - no question.

I think used to be more into underground hiphop before it got all emo n stuff.

I agree with this, well said.

Sometimes it seems like he doesn't care much about rhyming, which is cool I guess but does that mean it's spoken word now?

I like some things about Def Jux and some things about Aesop specifically, but I've never been 100% sold, for some of the reasons that you and rawb listed here.

On the other hand, I wish I hadn't lost that El-p disc I had back in the day. Can't remember the name of the album now but it was just starting to grow on me when it went missing.

Yeah I dno, Ive never been totally sold on him either to be honest.

I know he has good multis and abstract structure to his rhyming, but sometimes its just a bit too out there to really groove to and enjoy.

sorta always the same style.
