I suggest going to the Indian areas of Vancouver:

-49th and Main Street in Vancouver
-Scott Road in Surrey

I find it interesting that you're seeking Indian instruments. Any particular reason?

I'm looking for a sarangi

http://chandrakantha.com/articles/in...c/sarangi.html

or one of the many things like it...

http://chandrakantha.com/articles/in...sic/esraj.html

or maybe I could invest in a violin and tune it to indian scales

and a bansuri flute would be something I'd like to get a hold of too

I think a lot of these instruments have just amazingly beautiful sounds, and I've been working on ambient for a while now and would really like to incorporate those instruments into it as they fit in so well with what I'm trying to make...

do you know any stores on scott road that sell these instruments?

there's some shops on main street that carry stuff...i'm not sure on the quality but it might be worth looking, and take a brown person with you so you get the discounts.

I love the way the sitar sounds. I bought this Ravi Shankar cd a few years ago, but it turned out to be this instruction guide of how to play a sitar...ever have those headphones that people around you can hear everything thats going on?..Yeah, lol ..it was kind of strange just chillin on the skytrain with about four other people listening to this guy teach me how to play the sitar. They would hear this twang every few minutes or so.. haha, as more and more people started coming on to the train the reactions were gold..I think my cd must have instructed 6 or so people that day..
I really need to get around to buying an actual cd' of Indian music, It's so rad just watching people play the tablas. There are too many music genres in this world to sleep well.

::Edit:: WTF Nuf - i invite you to my house and you do this to me.. you didnt even spell Bhangra right.. bastard guy.

Yeah Tool is god, and that song is one of my favorite. The Tablas are nuts. Danny Carrey learned from someone who played with Ravi Shankar for a while. It's pretty decent but that is nothing compared to intense Hindi music. Bhangra has noooo tabla, but listen to some music from like.. Taal, or go to your local Gudawara and listen to the gyunee (sp?) or the.. er.. well the people playing.

BTW that song is god to listen to when you are high.

Oh, i remember when i was going to exchange video's on Main Street there was a place that had tabla's I think. Tom Lee's gets them in sometimes. I will ask the rents, my cousin has a Dhol, and i know a few people that have tabla's and my cousin also has a Bhaja.
