Hoped it would never actualy heppen (missing child)

Today I recived terrible news on a child I use to work with. One of the girls I use to work with 5-3 years ago had run away form her foster home and has been missing for the passed month in the down town east side.

After 10 years working with all diffrent kids of kids with all diffrent kinds of problems... I never thought such a scary incodent would actualy happen to any of my kids. I remember the two sisters when they were 7 and 9. They must be 11 and 13 now. Last time ive seen the girls was in 2003.

Apparently this was in the news paper yesterday, but the person who told me cant remember what sister it was that had gone missing. Another shocker is the fact that she is a "foster child" therefore the fact that she went missing couldnt be released until a month after!?!

I cant imagine either of the girls surving or being ok on their own. I spent the last hour trying to find information on either of them missing, but cant find anything.

In a way im not really shocked as ive heard many storys of kids their age running away to the streets. Knowing what theve been through as a child its not fiar at allthat this had to happen. I really wish there was somthing more I could do about it. Even if she was found, I dont know if there was any way for me to find out.

That's horrible news, I hope she is okay. Its sucks to hear about these things during the Holidays, lets hope she is safe and hopefully she will be found. It must be really hard on you cause you knew her, but these things happen all the time, it is really hard to deal with.

Hugs and lets hope see is found soon.

It's the 'it happens all the time' that bothers me and really hits me hard. Ive easly worked and gotten know over 1000 kids in my carreer. Hearing news like this wont be the first. I already had to deal with one girl who got raped a few years ago. But its like I have to tell myself their not my kids and i cant get too involved. Even if I was to run into her... there are so many rediculouse laws regarting contact with foster children I would be afread to approch her.

I dont know if any of you know about what or where alot of street kids go or a good place to get more information. Im just so shcoked that this has been going on for over a month and they cant find her!?!

That's horrible.

I don't know what to say really.

All you can do is hope that when you touch these kids lives that they remember what a loving and caring person you are.

I'll be home in less than a week, and we'll try to brighten things up a bit.

Try calling or going to Covenant House. Although it's a long shot that they've had contact with her they would most likely be able to provide you with the information that you're looking for.

If you knew all the rediculouse rules and regulations when it comes to children under foster care.

Last year I had to phone up my students social worker (gaurdian foster parents were not aloud) to get permission for her to leave the school on a field trip or even a walk off school property!?! What made it even more rediculouse was the fact that social workers are highly over worked and getting ahold of them was a good 3 phone calls, a message, and two days waiting to hear back.

Really really sad. Its hard enough for a child to deal with the fact that they are under foster care or apart of a group home... never mind all the rediculouse rules they have on top of that. It doesnt surprise me to hear of kids running away at all.

Im so sorry to hear that.Contact Dusk Till Dawn,its run out of the back of St.Pauls hospital.My gf Lisa used to work there,Ill talk to her and find out if there are more resources for at risk street youth that you could possibly get into contact with.

Seeing as though shes a foster child that has run away,I dont think she would be using such drop in centers as they are run by the government.But I could be wrong(i hope i am!),seeing as though they do have to keep confidentiality on the young people that do use thier services.Also with that said I doubt theyd be legally able to divulge any info as to wether or not the girl in question has been using thier services or not.

Definately a catch 22 situation,but I wish you&her the best and when I get more info about other drop in centers for street youth Ill definately post it up here for you to take a gander at.
