Ville Virtanen got his artist name Darude when he used to DJ at school parties where he played this one special track a lot. It was a big hit called "Rude Boy" by Swedish artist Leila K. Friends started to call Ville by the name "Rude Boy", it eventually turned to "The Rude" and finally Darude. When he was still in school, about six years ago, he bought his first PC and started to produce German-style happy hardcore with tracker programs. However, computer equipment was not enough and over a period of time Darude produced and started to work with sound modules and samplers. He played with the thought that someday his music would make it big time.

Darude's career as an artist got started when he met Finnish dance producer Jaakko Salovaara (JS 16) who is very respected as both an artist and a producer. He received a demo tape from Darude and noticed that there was something special in "Sandstorm". At the same time, Jaakko Salovaara established a record label called 16 Inch Records and signed Darude to his label. "Sandstorm" was the first single release from the label and the track was suddenly quite popular among the Finnish DJ's. It went straight to the #1 position on Finnish Dance Charts and dominated the chart for 16 weeks! In Finland, the success of the commercial single release of "Sandstorm" was unprecendented!

Darude's massive success in Finland was noticed everywhere else. English dance label, Neo Records, had heard rumors about the track. They found the song on the Internet and finally managed to get a CD of the track. Neo loved "Sandstorm" so much that they signed it. The track was well received and respected by global DJs like Judge Jules, Pete Tong, Graham Gold, Tall Paul and Paul Van Dyk. Sandstorm became the super mega-club hit and eventually playlisted on Radio One as well as having lots of Regional radio support. In June 2000, Darude became the first Finnish artist ever to reach the top 3 position on UK's single dance chart. "Sandstorm" was such a huge hit that it stayed in the top 20 for eleven weeks. This is an amazing result from a dance track that is totally instrumental. The single eventually snowballed the rest of the world including the United States and the rest is history.

It's been nearly 3 years since Darude last performed in Seattle w/ an unannounced surprise performance at Naf Studios and after the whirlwind of attention surrounding the single "Sandstorm." Darude is returning to prove that he is more than a one-hit wonder. With his new album Rush, Darude shows that he is prepared to make it known that his name will be remembered for many years to come! Get ready Seattle as Darude ignites the dancefloor and make you dance like you've never danced before!
