TIPPER

Tipper makes music for sound systems, with a diversity that ranges from bass fuelled electro-breaks, to hip-hop, to intricately programmed downtempo, to full orchestral compositions etc; music that demands to be played at high volumes to unleash their lethal potential. With a musical background in classical training, and listing influences from drum & bass, to hip-hop, to electronica, Tipper has created his own brand of devastating dancefloor bombs and after club ear-teasers. He is admired for being "streaks ahead," and his "expertly crafted" productions are dubbed as being "frightening yet refreshingcif it doesn't move you check for a pulse."

Tipper has also been heavily experimenting with "surround sound", and the possibilities of taking sound to new levels. After many hours of tweaking, Tipper has just completed his latest album "SURROUNDED." Mixed in a 5.1 studio in Los Angeles, he has created a whole new listening experience, with melting melodies, intricate programming, and sounds that circle you in a teasing and sometimes disorienting manner. Once again, Tipper ventures into new ground with this album, keeping it in the downtempo arena and exploring a wide range of styles that flow effortlessly and seamlessly from start to finish.

Not surprisingly this unique and effective sound is in high demand. Tipper has remixed a host of artists including such emissaries as Leftfield, Grooverider, S.I. Futures, mu-ziq, Headrillaz, and the seminal Africa Bambaata. He has released 9 singles and 2 albums through labels Fuel, Higher Ground and Sony; he has also written for the Renault Laguna and Board X TV advertising campaigns.

As a DJ/performer his prestigious talents are well respected throughout the breaks scene and beyond. In a recent pole for DJ magazine he was voted ahead of fellow breaks luminaries Hyper, Rennie Pilgrem, Freq Nasty and BLIM. His fluent mixing and remarkable scratching skills have secured him gigs throughout the world.

North Carolina's Trona is no doubt one of stateside's key figures in the nu-breaks movement. Although he's known throughout the southeast for his bass heavy and electro-funk selections, he is also one of the key players in the deep progressive arena which can be heard from his releases on Moonshine, his remix of Icelandic pop group Gus Gus, and his current collaborations with the west coast band Cirrus. Trona's first release on Moonshine's GREEN imprint found a place in many dj charts overseas. His 2nd release "Dangerous" was to go even further by getting radio play by Whole Nine Yard's Dark Globe. He ended 2003 with one of his most solid releases to date "Rhythm Man (turn up)" with the insanely brilliant "Insanity" to back the release. One can only expect the best that breakbeat has to offer when Trona is in performance.

Theory in Motion (TNM) is Danny James and Dillin Quent's wholly original musical and theatrical creation. While TNM is primarily born of their own musical passion and exuberant vision, it is also at least partly a response to the somewhat tiresome, often repetitive and the... well, there's just no other way to put this - the endemic unoriginality of DJs.

They have put together what they believe is a captivating live act that consists not only of great original music, but impressive theatrics and live renditions. Danny James incorporates a live electronic drum kit, turntable manipulation and live singing. Dillin Quent plays melodies on the keyboard, mixes/EQs the tracks and sings backup vocals. Both of them control the laptop running Cubase live. They also dance for and with the crowd, before, during and after their performance, contributing to a close-knit atmosphere with an incredible overall vibe.
