Where do you see the Rock scene heading

It seems that melodic ballads, ala the 80's, are on their way back. Also heavy metal seems to be on a rise as of late. What do you guys think?

Dude even Slipknot has some more melodic, ballad-like songs on their new album. I think its great though. Bands have to be able to show that they can play more than just three power chords or just crank out this heavy metal noise. You need to be able to write a real SONG. Bands like From Autumn to Ashes go from hardcore to mushy ballad.... quite the reversal if you ask me.

As far as I'm concerned the slower melodic stuff is great and as for heavy metal being on the rise again.... BRING IT!!

I like some of it... like you Brdr said, some of the new Slipknot is pretty damned good. Duality actually gets stuck in my head. :)

I havent listened to a decent rock song in a long time. slipknot's new album isint what I predicted it would be. Sounds more like pantera if you ask me, and some of the singing is just terrible.

Mainstream rock will most likely end up being an amalganation of emo and nu-metal.

Think grunge but depressively happier.

Metallica have been going strong with great metal for 20+ years now, bands like Jett have really started to bring back the "classic" rock and roll sounds back. I don't see nu metal ever rearing its ugly head for a while.

One T. Jett would have been a chick-rocker from the 80s, first name "Joan". Think "I love Rock 'n' Roll"

mainstream rock is heading into that shitty, whiny, long haired, british style wanker shit...with cheezy keyboards.. and tight pants.

EDIT:BTW i hate how alot of the stuff on slipknots new LP, sounds downtempo like Korn or something i.e the virus of life..although i like some riffs in three nil...and some other tracks, this LP doesen't conjure up as much energy as the previous albulms did for me back in grade 11, maybe my tastes have changed
