maybe it could be your wireless card, some have really bad ranges and it doesn't pick up signals that are close by.

No....Matt you dont get it. It will be connected to the internet but it wont work. So i have full signal, excellent signal strength and yet....NOTHING

It is wireless. but i dont have an external card. so i dont know what to do about that :(

just because it says excellent signal strength doesn't mean you can get onto the internet... signal strength is just a radio signal.... now you have the tcp/ip protocol to work properly in order for the internet to work.

it could be that... if there is a wep key on the router can also be that as well.... make sure your connecting to the proper router... maybe the wireless zero configuration in the administrative tools/service's is disabled....

my comp was doing that before and then it just started working normally again.

Im just fucking computer challenged. My new laptop is gorgeous, i love her...but i want her to work. and well....she doesnt. so I give up and it is currently working as a paper weight for all the mail i have received in the last 3 months ...

I'd say it's one of two things. Either you've got your wireless security set up properly, and haven't allowed your laptop proper access, or I just fixed a friend's wireless connection problem that was quite bizzare. <computer geek stuff> The wireless card, as far was Windows was concered, was installed. As far as the Intel drivers were concerned, they were not. </computer geek stuff>

The issue was exactly as you were describing, in that Windows was reporting an excellent signal and signal strength, but nothing was working.
