i've NEVER had a problem getting a cab in vancity.

well maybe except for new years at 4am, it took me a whole 25 mins to find a cab.

it all depends when you are looking for cabs and where you need to go..

it doesn't take an hour to call a cab.

chances are if you are trying to get one after the clubs let out, then obviously you're going to have to wait a bit longer.

also, if you want a cab downtown late on a weekend night, you're better off to walk a few blocks and get one rather than try to call. It has never taken me an hr to get a cab.

took me about 45 minutes to get one on friday too, both while walking along the street trying to grab one and by calling. i found the end of their shifts was a big factor and a lot of cabs either didn't want to leave town or didn't want to come back after.

I never used to have a problem, but it is getting worse. I've had a couple of nights now where I walked a huge distance just trying to find the prime area where they were all getting flagged down.

If you get onto Smithe street, where they're re-entering d/t from the Cambie Street bridge, that's a pretty good bet.

There was an article (Georgia Straight?) a while ago about this becoming a worsening problem.

it's never been a big problem for me if i'm just having a night out... but trying to get a cab after DJing when i have heavy bags with me is brutal. You can't compete with drunkards running out in the street to catch one, and with the amount of vinyl i usually carry it's murder trying to walk even ablock or 2 away for a better chance. I can't count the amount of times i've been stranded in front of the Lotus while cabs that i've called are scooped by people unencumbered by a record crate. frustrating.
