However, George W. Bush was governor at the time. Being the privileged kind of governor he was, considered Tucker to be worse than white trash, and worthy only of the death sentence. In Texas at the time, the rising crime wave due to oppression of the poor led to a myopic view of criminals, especially murderers, by good old folk who were born and raised as good Christians. Yet the hypocrisy of their leaders led to atrocities like the Vietnam War, which was continued by Lyndon B. Johnson.

Getting back to Tucker, Bush showed no compassion and clemency for her because she was both a whore and a murderer in his eyes. Despite his younger years as a rebel without a cause, a drunktard and a suspect drug abuser, this man has seen the light of truth, and in denial of his past, chose not to commute Tucker's sentence to life. In doing so, he shows how disconnected he is from the plight of others.

Today, nobody knows Carla Fay Tucker. Nobody cares, because everyone's made up their minds about poor white trash, including George W. Bush.

Hence the social problems in the US have continued to worsen, in spite of Bush's re-election and the Democratic Party's concessions recently made about the Florida voters' results of the previous election.

And the main reason for this rise in crime is not white trash or prostitutes or even murderers: it is the inability of the rich to feel any compassion for their fellow man while they rob them blind.
