my darwin award

after work yesterday:

i was walking over to my nail place on helmcken at howe and i decided to j-walk and run infront of a bus stopped at street light and was going to stop at the robson and howe st stop by chapters. right as i hit the first lane of traffic i decided to run because his light went green and he was accelerating, but as i pushed off my foot was grabbed and held by a frost heave that jutted out of the concrete. i couldn't free my hands (they were tangled holding my huge bag with my laptop and camera and other electronics in it) and i fell like a tree, hard.
of the 60 assholes at the bus stop, only a 70yr old lady with white hair came to my aide.
i was in shock as the bus almost ran me over, but got up and shook it off and went to get my nails done.
when the shock and adrenaline wore off during my manicure, it became PAINFULLY clear that my left arm was very much not ok.
i then decided to go to the hospital.
turns out i broke my fucking elbow.
while j-walking.
fuck.
so now i'm off work for at least a couple weeks, depending on what the orthopedic surgeon says.

i am now convinced that i will win a darwin award.

yep.
ps i didn't feel much pain due to the shock and adrenaline that followed. if i'd thought it was broken then i would have gone straight to st pauls. thanks for comin' out.
