Yaha virus moving quickly

I know this for a fact because I just got through a reformat and reinstall to make sure it was gone for good. This one shuts down your antivirus progs and renders most exe functions useless. It's whipping through hotmail, yahoo and aol. It's about 47k in size and says shit like "Lovely Screensaver" please open. I didn't click on the link nor download anything but i got a taste of it.

A new variant of the Yaha virus that appeared just before Christmas has proven contagious infecting thousands of computers worldwide.

To date, more than 17,000 copies of the virus, dubbed W32/Yaha.M, have been detected by MessageLabs.

The worm, first intercepted on December 21, affects computers running on Windows operating systems. It uses its own SMTP engine to e-mail itself to all contacts in the Windows address book, MSN Messenger, .NET Messenger, Yahoo Pager and files with extensions containing letters HT. The worm arrives in the form of .exe or .scr attachments with a variety of subject lines and messages. It also attempts to close down a number of firewalls and antivirus programs.

In response to the increase in occurrence, Symantec (which has dubbed the worm W32.Yaha.K@mm) raised its threat from category 2 to 3.

I just got it the other day and I didn't even open the attachment. Then my Norton shut down (I'm still wondering why it didn't pick it up in the first place??) and grrr. So annoying!!

I just ended up reformatting and reinstalling xp. Lucky I already had most of my stuff backed up from last time so I didn't have much to back up.

Stupid virus' and people who come up with them. ITS A WASTE OF TIME. Ah...

Fuck, I got that like 80 times and just opened one and deleted the rrest.. I JUST check my norton virus thing and its shut down.. WTF!?!?!

GRrrrr... I dont even knwo how to work the thing...

but my comp is fine.. actually the funny thing is.. my comps working better then before.. heh..

but I dont think thats a good thing!

it will only automaticly infect you if your outlook hasnt been patched in the last 6-8 months, it preys on the incorrect mime-type vulnerbility.

otherwise you have to open the attachment. it's super tricky, it forges a exim bounce and some other fun 'YOU ARE MY FRIEND SEND THIS BACK!' emails.

virus makers are finally getting a handle on social engineering... this is going to be fun. 90% of viruses are spread by soccer moms and 14 year old girls now. you should need to take a test before you can log in.

That's what happened to me. =\ Stupid virus.

I also got it like 312739012 times in my hotmail too. It might've been from there. I've gotten enough virus' from my hotmail without even opening the damn attachments.

Oh well.

for me it just wouldn't let me open my norton anti-virus, and i couldn't ctrl+alt+delete to see what programs i had running and stuff..
