Does this bother you?

It bothers me:

Last wednesday i went to see final fantasy with some friends. I don't really go to the movies too often because i'm not interested in most modern movies, but it seems like whenever i DO go, or watch a recent movie, i notice this.

In the first 20 minutes of final fantasy, i saw more than 3 brand names. I saw seiko on "aki's" watch, and a big pepsi sign and a sony sign. There were probably more but i didnt see them after the plot started forming. It really bugs me that in every movie, there are companies buying out ad space!!!!!

What can you do about it though, besides live in an underground hole? Even if you isolate yourself from silly things like magazines, radio, teevee, there are always billboards and other forms of communication. It's totally inevitable but it still annoys me.

yeah i've noticed that too. more and more these days it seems.

there's a book i've been meaning to read called NO LOGO (i forget who it's by right now =P) has anyone else read it? any good?

i wouldn't say it bothers me so much to see it. it sorta bothers me that that's the direction that society is going. i seldom buy name brand clothing (besides shoes - and that's rare) and i hate to support "name brands" and "logos". general rule of thumb: don't spend more than 30 bucks on pants and 20 on a shirt.

i don't know where i heard it but someone recently used the term corporate mosh pit. i think that perfectly describes what's going on in the retail market in general. big names climbing over big names to get to the top of some massive heap of Tommys and Kanis. PSHHHHHHHHHH

On the internet have you noticed all ads and banners are flashy and mezmorizing?

I mean so what if you see a Pepsi sign or a Sony sign

It doesn't bother me one bit because i already like those products

Sony is on there because Sony Playstation makes their games and all of that.

If you look back to Ancient movies like ET or any movies that are old there are lots of advertising but they dont stand out as much as now

I find i ignore subliminal advertising after a while i think its neat what kind of companies support a movie

If Coke advertised in the FF movie (i dont like coke) it would be okay

After this i hope you see what i mean or Unless it is senseless rambling BS you can see my point

The book you mentioned, No Logo, is by Naomi Klein. I am about 1/3rd of the way through it and it's an interesting book so far. Kind of says things you already know about but want to know EVEN more about. you should read it, too. it's pretty neat.

of course you're going to see brand names! think about it this way, if you walk down the street today, and say take a look at someone's watch... you're going to see a brand name... whether it be Rolex or Timex, there's a still a brand name there! Now, keep walking down this street, you are going to see ads for everything, whether it be Pepsi, Sheik condoms, or Excel gum! you're still going to see them!

So now, the way I see it, if you're watching a movie, which involved humans on earth and everything, expect to see brand names! I mean the make many movies to make them seem realistic y'know? and if the person in the movie walked down the streets and there was ABSOLUTELY no advertising of any sort, how realistic would that be?

they could *easily* make up their own brands and advertise that, but with big companies buying out advertising in movies, it brings in the money to help produce the movie....and it makes the movie seem more realistic if they're like things you can relate more to in it.. y'know?
